Since 2008, Gavin Stewart has had the privilege of guiding over 100 pupils from Perth and across Central Scotland, from young children to adults, on their unique musical paths. Gavin draws on the inspiration he received from his own mentors to nurture the same spark in every learner. The academy empowers pupils to become independent musicians, capable of self evaluation and taking ownership of their progress. Gavin Stewart Piano Academy began as a solo teaching venture by Gavin Stewart, an experienced and passionate piano educator with a dream of creating a nurturing space where pupils of all backgrounds could thrive musically.

From modest beginnings, the academy has grown into a well-recognised piano academy, known for its student-focused approach and high teaching standards. Families across Perthshire continue to recommend our work, supported by positive Google reviews and word of mouth referrals.
In 2025, the team welcomed Joe Woodward, a talented associate teacher who shares the academy’s core values and teaching ethos. Together, we continue to expand, evolve, and inspire the next generation of pianists throughout Central Scotland.

Meet The Team

Meet Gavin Stewart – Artistic Director, Piano Teacher

Hello, I’m Gavin. I started the Gavin Stewart Piano Academy because I believe everyone has the potential to make music.

Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked with more than 100 students, helping each one progress at their own pace—whether they’re absolute beginners, returning after a break, or preparing for exams.

My teaching style is relaxed, supportive, and tailored to the individual. I hold a BMus (Honours) from Napier University and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and I’m proud to be a member of EPTA UK and The Curious Piano Teachers.

One of my passions is mentoring new piano teachers, sharing what I’ve learned and supporting them on their own educational journeys.

Meet Joe Woodward – Associate Teacher

Hello, I’m Joe, and I’m thrilled to be part of the Gavin Stewart Piano Academy.

I am a piano tutor in Central Scotland, classically trained with a BMus from Edinburgh Napier University. I teach students of all levels and ages, from complete beginners to advanced players refining their technique.

I focus on creating lessons that are structured, supportive, and—most importantly—fun. Every student has their own goals, and I tailor my teaching to help them build confidence, express themselves musically, and enjoy the process along the way.

Joining the academy in 2025 has allowed me to collaborate with like-minded educators and contribute to a community that truly values student growth and passion for music.
